Trigeneration in the energy efficiency plan for Zoetis’ carbon neutrality
Case history
Zoetis produces and markets medicine for the animal world. The Catania Italian branch, which produces active substances for veterinary use, is extremely energy-intensive, with a consumption of electricity between 20 and 25 GWh/year and therefore with a strong economic impact. For this reason and in order to achieve the carbon neutrality objective by 2030, the company has adopted an energy efficiency plan that includes LED lighting, new high-efficiency refrigeration machines, a new 1 MW photovoltaic field and the construction of a 1 MW trigeneration plant. The latter enables a more rational and efficient production and use of energy by reducing CO2 emissions by 700 t/year.
