From farm to power: how Petro-Canada supports MHP’s biogas

                      30 September 2025

MHP is a leading food & agrotech company headquartered in Kyiv, Ukraine. Established in 1998 by CEO Yuriy Kosiuk, it has grown into an international powerhouse, supplying food and grain across Europe with facilities in Ukraine, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

MHP’s main operations are poultry breeding and meat processing, covering 55% of the Ukrainian industrial chicken market. The company runs three broiler poultry farms and two breeding farms for parent stock and hatching egg production. In addition to meat, MHP is a major grain producer, growing corn, sunflower, wheat, and rapeseed on 370,000 hectares across Ukraine. MHP is also Ukraine’s leading renewable energy producer, with biogas projects playing a key role in energy independence and environmental responsibility.

                      THE CHALLENGE

In 2019, MHP launched its Biogas Ladyzhyn project in Vinnytsia region, Europe’s largest complex for processing organic poultry waste. The 12-megawatt facility produces 52 million cubic meters of biogas annually. MHP needed a robust gas engine oil capable of protecting equipment from wear and corrosion, minimizing deposits, and maximizing energy efficiency to reduce maintenance costs and downtime.

                      THE SOLUTION

MHP had prior experience with Petro-Canada Lubricants SENTRON CG 40 at their Oril Lider facility, where it exceeded 4,000 hours of operation- 30% longer than competing oils - while maintaining all key performance indicators within recommended limits. Based on this performance, MHP chose SENTRON CG 40 for the Biogas Ladyzhyn engines. Designed for severe service in 4-stroke gas engines, SENTRON CG 40 offered excellent wear protection, deposit control, and efficiency.

                      THE RESULTS

After four years of operation, SENTRON CG 40 continues to perform exceptionally. After 28,000 hours, inspections showed minimal deposits, carbon build-up, or piston ring scuffing. The oil’s protective qualities reduced maintenance costs and improved the plant’s energy output and overall efficiency. Ongoing in-service oil analysis confirms that SENTRON CG 40 can exceed 5,000 hours per interval.

“Through close analysis, we’ve been able to experience further benefits and get the most out of our equipment.” - Ruslan Dyachenko, Director of Biogas Ladyzhyn

SENTRON - PREMIUM GAS ENGINE OILS

SENTRON is a line of premium stationary gas engine oils highly regarded in its industry. Each SENTRON product delivers unparalleled performance through a longer lasting oil. Its unique formulations increase reliability and reduce downtime. It offers superior anti-wear protection to extend equipment life and is engineered to tackle tough operational demands.
