Biomethane and fertiliser from poultry manure: the case of the Wijster plant in the Netherlands
Applications and technologies
In the village of Wijster, in the Netherlands, biomethane is produced from poultry manure. The biomethane obtained by processing the manure produced by the chicken farms in the area is used to meet the needs of about 20,000 families, helping to offset over 100,000 tons of CO2. In addition, a considerable amount of natural fertiliser is also obtained from the digestate, which further contributes to environmental sustainability.
