"Cittadella della Carità" goes ethical: a cogeneration plant for a more sustainable hospital
Case history
The IRCCS Ospedale Sacro Cuore Don Calabria, located in Negrar (VR), is a Scientific Institute for Research, Hospitalization and Health Care. Together with the Residential Care Home and nursing home, they make the so-called "Charity Cittadella". The “Cittadella” is exactly where the 2006 kW cogeneration plant found life: the plant makes up for electricity needs of 17 million kW/ h per year. The plant, with its electrical and thermal efficiency of 83.7%, allows to eliminate 2,325 t of CO2 per year. The electricity produced is in turn used by the structure for civil / accommodation uses, while the thermal energy is employed for hot water and heating.
