Current biogas and biomethane production in Europe: is the target of 35 billion m3 by 2030 achievable?
Market and policy
To date, Europe produces 21 billion m3 of biogas and biomethane combined. Of this 4.2 billion m3 is biomethane. The roadmap to reach the REPowerEU target of 35 billion m3 of biomethane by 2030 is therefore outlined, but will we be able to achieve the target? Giulia Cancian from EBA explains that – if all available raw materials were unlocked – the potential in Europe would be even higher, that is, 44 billion m3 of biomethane by 2030 and that many European countries have defined clear and precise production targets, going so far as to declare 14.16 billion m3 of biomethane by 2030 precisely in their regulations. Let's find out more in this interview.
