Eight-month deadline extension for the “Flexibility Bonus” for biogas plants in Germany
Market and policy
With the “Corona Law” approved by the Bundestag a few weeks ago, the German government extended the deadline for the so-called Flexibility Bonus (Flexibilitätsprämie) for biogas plants operating in Germany by eight months. With EEG 2017, the government introduced a bonus limit, in order to help biogas plants become more flexible. This limit was reached in July 2019. Plants that were eligible for the bonus were required to comply with the necessary provisions by November 2020. However, the lockdown imposed over the past few months by the coronavirus pandemic has slowed down all the various operations. This extension therefore helps operators meet the deadlines that have now been postponed to July 2021. How was this result achieved? Thanks to the commitment and work of Germany’s Biogas Association, the Fachverband Biogas e.V.
