Elodea: an aquatic plant with high methanogenic potential
Anaerobic digestion
Elodea (waterweed) is an aquatic plant belonging to the Hydrocharitaceae family that has been studied as a potential biomass for biogas production. Despite a high water content its potential can be increased by using it together with straw, giving it a very similar yield to that of corn silage. In Germany, however, the feasibility of its use is not yet clear.
