Europe's 2040 climate targets: Bruegel study examines risks and suggests new approaches
Energy efficiency and cogeneration
A recent paper from the think tank Bruegel examines Europe's 2040 climate target, identifying four key risks: geoeconomic stability/instability, technological progress, exacerbating inequality, and policy credibility. Geoeconomic instability affects investments in clean technologies, while technological advancements, while in terms of technological advances, some technologies are already mature while others have yet to develop. Inequality could worsen with carbon pricing, and weak policy commitment might undermine past investments. To address these risks, the report stresses the importance of a resilient approach both economically and socially.
