From Perugina -30% CO₂ emissions in 5 years thanks to trigeneration and photovoltaics
Perugina’s “Bacio” chocolates are known all over the world, boasting 100 years of history. The well-known company in Perugia, part of the Nestlè Group since 1988, produces not only the famous chocolate, but also chocolate bars, Easter eggs, products for special occasions and cocoa powder. Various initiatives have been implemented at the plant in San Sisto (Perugia) to reduce the environmental impact and be more sustainable: photovoltaics, the reuse of water from the cooling towers, the optimisation of energy for the air conditioning of the rooms and the installation of a trigeneration plant. The latter consists of two 3.3 MW and 2.7 MW electrical power groups and simultaneously produces electricity, hot and cold thermal energy, all used in the production processes. The presence of the photovoltaic plant and the cogenerator and the purchase of energy from renewable sources from the grid has allowed the company to reduce CO₂ emissions by 30% in 5 years.
