Hydrogen cogeneration: challenges and opportunities
Energy efficiency and cogeneration
Hydrogen cogeneration (CHP) offers the possibility of producing 100% clean and sustainable electricity and thermal energy, while ensuring the reliability and resilience typical of this technology. However, hydrogen faces significant challenges related to high costs low availability and an infrastructure (gas pipelines and transport systems) that is still to be developed. In the United States, IRA incentives are helping to reduce costs and support hydrogen production. An important turning point could come from the extension of tax credits to blue or pink hydrogen (produced from nuclear sources), which is more easily accessible than green hydrogen.
