DVGW - the German technical and scientific commission for gas and water – has produced a roadmap to present to the government its research programme on the benefits of using biogas in the German heating and transport sectors. The aim is to repeat the success achieved in electricity production, with clear economic and environmental benefits: it is potentially possible to produce as much as 100 TWh of energy through biogas (10% of current needs). Moreover, using it to replace coal and lignite could save up to 100 million tonnes of CO2 emissions a year.
