The role of research in sustainable agriculture
Research
How can research support the development of “well-executed” agriculture? Professor Fabrizio Adani, from the University of Milan, explains in this video interview the fundamental role of research in integrating agriculture within a sustainable framework. The focus is on digestate, a by-product of biogas, which not only reduces the use of chemical fertilisers but also improves soil fertility and helps reduce harmful emissions. Other key research areas include: enhancing the value of digestate as a marketable fertiliser, reducing agriculture’s environmental impact, and studying the soil biome to ensure long-term soil health and regeneration.
