India is also aiming for the concrete development of the biogas sector: target of 500 GW of production by 2030
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared the country’s commitment to developing the biogas sector, setting ambitious targets: to achieve 500 GW of renewable energy production by 2030, reduce emissions by 1 billion tonnes by the same year, and replace part of fossil gas (LNG) with renewable biogas. To this end, India has introduced several initiatives, including the SATAT(Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation programme), aimed at the creation of 5000 large biogas plants and the use of biogas in the transport and urban distribution sector. To advance further, India could benefit from international assistance in terms of technology, research and development and regulations, collaborating with already advanced countries in the biogas sector to improve plant performance and boost investor confidence.
