Renewable gases in the European energy mix
Market and policy
We talked to Catherine Banet from the Centre on Regulation in Europe (CERRE) about the role of renewable gases in the European energy mix by 2050. Catherine stressed that renewable gases are already making a key contribution to the energy system to realise the ambitious goals of the Repower EU package. However, attention needs to be paid to how to integrate these gases into the energy market, highlighting the importance of grid access and regulations that ensure clear benefits. Attention should also be paid to CO2 emission reduction criteria and common standards to facilitate fair trade.
