Germany and biomethane: Challenges and prospects for the sector’s future

Over the past ten years, Germany has seen the largest increase in biogas plants, but many believe the country is slowing down compared to the rest of Europe. The main reason is that previous governments focused on wind and solar, neglecting biogas. The current government has shown commitment to biogas and biomethane, aiming to improve regulations and grid connections. Past issues, such as competition from biodiesel and the drop in CO₂ prices, have hindered operators. With corrective measures and a more stable market, Germany’s biomethane sector can definitely restart.
