Biogas from woody biomass: the Life Steam project
Applications and technologies
The Life Steam project, involving three companies, Hera (the plant operator), Ayrion (anaerobic digestion expert), and Valmet (provider of the BioTrac technology), aimed to demonstrate the feasibility of using woody biomass in anaerobic digestion for biogas production. Running from 2019 to June 2024, the project showed a yield increase of 3 to 5 times from untreated to treated biomass. The results were promising, although further work is still needed.
