Ireland’s biomethane industry is entering a decisive phase, with new plants ready to connect to the gas grid. The priority is to quickly create the right conditions and incentives to attract and retain investment in the country. Gas Networks Ireland is working on standardised connection solutions and reverse grid compression systems, which are essential for transporting biomethane produced in rural areas to major centres of consumption. The Mitchelstown hub will also play a key role, allowing biomethane transported by road from smaller plants or facilities located far from the grid to be injected into the network.
