Biomethane/RNG used in Germany for cogeneration, but the government encourages use for transport
Market and policy
There are more than 200 biomethane plants installed in Germany. Such biomethane/RNG is used almost exclusively to feed cogeneration plants and to produce electricity and heat. Indeed, only 5% of the biomethane/RNG produced in Germany is used in the transport sector. However, this situation is expected to change soon, because by 2030 the German government aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions from transportation by 30%.
