Brazil: a booming biogas market with vast untapped potential
Market and policy
According to CIBiogás, Brazil’s biogas and biomethane sector is experiencing strong growth, with 1,803 plants currently in operation and annual production reaching 4.9 billion cubic meters of biogas. Over the past five years, the number of plants has increased by 15% per year, while production has grown by 13% annually. Despite this progress, the country is utilizing only 5% of its total potential, thanks to the vast availability of agricultural, industrial, and organic waste resources. More efficient technologies, international investment, and supportive policies such as the new Future Fuel Act will be key to accelerating development. Brazil is therefore emerging as one of the world's most promising biogas and biomethane markets.
