RED III and the future of biomethane: regulatory challenges in Europe
Market and policy
The RED III Directive supports the development of the European biomethane sector by setting more ambitious renewable energy targets and a specific 2030 target for advanced biogas. However, its implementation is being held back by delays in transposition and regulatory fragmentation across Member States.
Looking beyond 2030, the EBA – European Biogas Association identifies four key priorities: clear targets for renewable gases, simpler rules, greater harmonisation across Europe and regulatory certainty. A more consistent and streamlined framework is essential to encourage investment and ensure the smooth functioning of the single market. Find out more in this interview.
