Development of biomethane in France: the agricultural model and GRDF’s support are key factors
The biomethane sector in France has also developed thanks to the specific characteristics of the country’s agricultural model. It is precisely the agricultural sector that has allowed a surprising growth of the market in just 10 years, reaching almost 13 Terawatt hours of biomethane fed into the grid. GRDF has also contributed to this growth, establishing a relationship of trust with the agricultural community, developing collaborations with associations and promoting research and development programmes related to agriculture and bioenergy. Added to all this are efforts and investments to strengthen and innovate the gas distribution system. This is explained by Xavier Passemard, Director of Biomethane at GRDF and sponsor of the European Biomethane Week 2024.
