Germany: "Cluster" approach for the production of biomethane, including for small biogas plants

For biogas plant operators in Germany, upgrading to biomethane represents a challenge, particularly for small-scale plants. To support small producers, the KIT - Engler-Bunte-Institut has developed a project idea that involves the grouping of small plants so that all the biogas produced is conveyed to a single central upgrading site, ending with the direct injection of biomethane into the grid. This “cluster” approach offers significant economic advantages, with a cost reduction of 50% compared to an individual operation.
