There are areas in Germany in which wild plants grow in abundance and can be used as an alternative to maize in the production of biomass. Not only do perennial plants have good methanogen potential but they are also abundant in nature. They grow in both summer and winter, they are in flower for longer and they keep the environment lively and rich in animal species (birds, rabbits, insects...) The missing element to incentivise their use as biomass is support for their cultivation from the European Union.
