Incentives for biogas and biomethane/RNG in the United Kingdom: latest news
Market and policy
While the Feed-in Tariff (Fit) incentive mechanism for electricity production has been declining for months in the United Kingdom, the updated RHI (Renewable Heat Incentive) has finally given fresh impetus to the production of heat from renewable sources and for the input of biomethane/RNG into the national natural gas grid. This is due not only to an increase in incentives but also to the introduction of a “guaranteed tariff”. The biomethane for transport sector is also beginning to mature thanks to new government targets in this area. Last but not less important, there are also high expectations of a new food waste policy due to come into force by the end of the year.
