NGVA Europe urges the EU: the proposal for reducing CO2 emissions must be revised. The role of biomethane is too marginal.
Market and policy
The European Commission proposals presented over the last period also include the revision of the performance levels regarding CO2 emissions, i.e. the reduction of 55%of CO2 emissions for cars by 2030 and of 50% for commercial vehicles. However, the proposal seems to have been framed by maintaining only the principle of exhaust emissions and, therefore, with a firm denial of the principle of technological neutrality. This approach though does not recognise the important role played by biofuels, in particular by biomethane, which is the only fully renewable source and which may have negative emissions under certain conditions. So, what to do? Does the proposal take hydrogen into account? We talked about it with NGVA Europe.
