Spain: a circular economy project in agriculture
Research
IRTA (Institute for Agrifood Research and Technology) in Spain has launched Bioenergy: a project installing a biogas plant on a dairy farm to produce thermal energy from cow manure. The heat generated will be used for hot water in the milking process, reducing diesel consumption and improving sustainability. The digestate will be composted and reused as bedding and fertiliser, closing the nutrient loop. A circular economy model applied to livestock farming, where every waste becomes a resource.
