The key sector in the development of biomethane/RNG in Germany is transport
Sustainable mobility
The transport sector is of huge importance to the development of biomethane/RNG in Germany: current biomethane production in the country amounts to 10 TWh, around 380 GWh of which is used as fuel for transport. The impetus comes from the fact that companies in the fuel sector are under an obligation to reduce their CO2 emissions by 4%, and biomethane is the only solution for achieving this percentage and avoiding a fine of 470 euro per tonne of excess CO2.
In this interview Alexey Mozgovoy, of the German biogas association, gives a comprehensive overview of prospects for the sector.
