U.S.A.: laws and regulations at the Federal and State level for the biomethane/RNG market
Market and policy
In this WebTalk with the Coalition for Renewable Natural Gas (RNG Coalition), we discover the federal laws and regulations that impact the biomethane/RNG market. Among the most important are the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), a federal US program managed by the EPA - Environmental Protection Agency that provides credits (RINs) to encourage the use of alternative fuels for transport. In addition, the recent IRA - Inflation Reduction Act will also give an unprecedented boost to the entire sector!
Each individual State has also dedicated regulations to encourage biomethane production. Some of the most effective programs include the Low Carbon Fuel Standard in California, Oregon and Washington.
