Biogas and biomethane in Italy: looking beyond the NRRP
The biogas and biomethane sector is looking ahead with confidence to the upcoming milestones of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). June 30, 2026, marks the date by which approximately 500 projects will be able to benefit from the adjustment measures provided for under the Plan, with an additional 24 months to become operational and complete the investments already underway.
The goal is to consolidate the results achieved so far and look beyond, aiming to reach 5 billion cubic meters of biomethane by 2030. To achieve this, stable policies and instruments that enable agricultural businesses to plan investments over the long term will be essential.
Anaerobic digestion continues to prove a key technology not only for the production of renewable energy and biomethane, but also for increasing the competitiveness and sustainability of agricultural enterprises, contributing to the country's energy independence and ecological transition.
