Biogas in Germany: The regulatory framework is under discussion
Market and policy
The regulatory framework for the biogas sector in Germany is currently under discussion, and the draft law has not yet been finalised. As Alexander Lehr, Renewable Energies and Biogas Consultant at renergie Allgäu e.V., explains, amendments to the EEG (Erneuerbare-Energien-Gesetz) are expected to make biogas use more flexible. Plants will need to feed electricity into the grid more adaptively, reducing reliance on base load operation. This will allow energy to be supplied when wind and solar power are not generating. Further updates will follow as the specific regulations become clearer.
