New World Biogas Association report on the biogas sector in China
Market and policy
The new World Biogas Association report analyses the current state and potential of the biogas and biomethane sector in China. It is a huge market, supported by the availability of livestock manure and agricultural residues, as well as the country’s decarbonisation targets. The sector is shifting from small household-scale plants towards larger projects, but significant infrastructure challenges remain. These include difficulties in aggregating feedstocks and connecting production areas to gas networks. The valorisation of digestate and bio-CO₂ is also still at an early stage: the potential is huge, but the market still needs to mature.
