Biomethane in Italy: the real potential province by province
Associations
Snam and CIB have carried out an in-depth analysis of biomethane production potential, mapping biomass availability across Italian provinces. The study introduces four categories of potential to avoid overestimation and account for all factors that may reduce actual producibility. The most relevant feedstocks for agricultural biomethane include livestock effluents, agricultural residues and by-products, with a key role played by catch crops and second harvests. Geographically, the potential is mainly concentrated in the Po Valley, but significant results also emerge in Central and Southern Italy.
