Co-digestion of sugar cane by-products for biogas production: a study from India
Research
India’s economy is based mainly on farming; agricultural residues therefore form a significant part of the country’s organic waste. A large part of this residue derives from the processing of sugar cane, such as bagasse, the residue resulting from its pressing or the post-processing wastewater. All these by-products could be useful for the production of biogas and, therefore, clean energy! The study referred to in this interview focuses on press muds which are very complex lignocellulose biomasses. For this reason, in order to valorise them as a by-product, they must be processed by means of co-digestion with other agricultural wastes.
