Decarbonising islands thanks to biomethane and biogas: the ROBINSON project
Applications and technologies
Islands are often remote territories, where it is difficult to ensure a safe, cost-effective and renewable energy supply. Therefore, their dependence on fossil fuels is still very high. To this end, the ROBINSON project, funded by the EU, aims to decarbonise islands by developing an energy system which combines various innovative technologies to produce green energy. These also include those involving biogas and biomethane (in addition to hydrogen).
The system has already been implemented and tested on the island of Eigerøy, Norway.
