France: Valorize, From Agricultural Resources to Renewable Energy
In South Touraine, France, local agricultural resources are being transformed into renewable energy. The Valorize anaerobic digestion plant uses manure, which accounts for around 40% of its feedstock, alongside plant material, to produce biogas and biomethane. Once upgraded to over 99% methane using membrane technology, the biomethane is injected into the public gas grid, providing enough energy to supply around 2,000 households in the area. But the benefits go beyond energy production: the digestate is returned to surrounding agricultural fields as a natural fertiliser, reducing farmers’ dependence on imported products. By combining local resources, renewable energy and sustainable agriculture, Valorize strengthens farm resilience and supports greater regional energy independence. Let’s take a closer look at this project in the video.
