Biogaspark: a concrete example of the transition towards biomethane in Slovakia
Case history
We visited the BiogasPark site in Slovakia, where the conversion of three biogas plants from electricity generation to biomethane production has recently been completed. The project, launched in 2022, overcame significant technical challenges, particularly regarding the injection of biomethane into the medium-pressure distribution grid. Today, the plant produces around 500 Nm³/h of biomethane, corresponding to an energy capacity of approximately 5.5 MW, mainly supplying renewable gas to four nearby municipalities; any excess production is fed into the high-pressure grid. At the same time, the site has reduced its reliance on dedicated energy crops, increasingly using by-products and organic waste as feedstock, strengthening its contribution to decarbonisation and the circular economy.
