Incentive scheme for biomethane/RNG in France
Market and policy
Since the feed-in tariff system was introduced in 2011, France managed to rank among the top five biomethane/RNG producers in Europe. Incentives, backed by the government’s ambitious sustainability goals, increase if biomethane/RNG is obtained from specific matrices, such as waste or zootechnical waste. What’s more, tenders for plants able to produce more than 250 GWh/year are expected to be launched in 2020. We asked the ATEE Club Biogaz association to explain in detail how the feed-in tariff system works in France.
