Separating food that is still edible from waste destined for AD plants to help those in need
Landfill and Waste
The food industry alone in Britain produces 200,000 tonnes of excess food every year. Currently, companies believe it easier to take the surplus to landfill or to anaerobic digestion plants, but the government’s support would be beneficial in encouraging them to make the correct distinction between food that is still edible and waste destined for AD plants. Some of this food could in fact be given to charitable organisations like FareShare to satisfy the food needs of the 13.5 million people in the UK that are living in poverty.
