Severn Trent: food waste to power a wastewater treatment facility
Case history
The English water company, Severn Trent, after years of specialisation in the production of biogas from sewage, inaugurated the Coleshill plant, where 48.5 tons of solid and liquid food waste from the Birmingham area is treated every year. Thanks to two cogeneration plants of 1.2 MW each, electricity is produced that is partly used to operate the onsite wastewater treatment plant, and partly sold to the national grid.
