Biogas plants above 2 thermal MW: sustainability verification becomes mandatory
Market and policy
With the Sustainability Decree, for all biogas plants (new, installed or at the end of the incentive period) with a power greater than 2 thermal MW, the verification of sustainability becomes mandatory. For a first transitional period of 9 months – ending in May 2025 – the activity is simplified and so-called 2008 soil analysis is required for both 2023 and 2024. After this initial period, certification by an accredited body is mandatory, as is the traceability of biomass. Christian Curlisi from CIB explains all the technical and critical aspects in this interview.
