France: BPA and CPB for biogas plants at the end of incentives
Market and policy
In France, as in other European countries, older biogas production plants are reaching the end of their incentive period (15-20 years). The expiration of these incentives opens the door to new opportunities, such as BPA and BPC contracts. BPA (Biogas Purchase Agreements) are private purchase agreements directly signed between biogas producers and private buyers, while CPB (Biogas Production Certificates) involve obligated entities—such as gas suppliers—who must purchase a certain amount of biomethane to meet regulatory or environmental targets. Let’s explore these alternative mechanisms that offer new opportunities for French biogas producers, with ATEE at the forefront in supporting them in this transition.
