Germany: the economic advantages of the flexibility of biogas installations
Market and policy
The flexibility of biogas installations has become extremely advantageous in Germany since the EEG flexibility bonus was implemented. Installations can increase their power up to a maximum of five-fold, benefiting from the bonus for over 10 years. In addition, the flexibility reduces plant maintenance costs (as it operates for fewer hours) and specific direct costs. Finally, electricity is sold when market demand is high and therefore at a decidedly better price.
