How to scale up the production of gas from renewable sources up to 120 billions of cubic meters annually? Ecofys has the answer
Market and policy
By 2050, in Europe, the production of gas from renewable sources could be scaled up to 120 billion cubic meters annually. Renewable gas not only has the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to zero, but also generate savings of Euro 138 billion per year. Among renewable gases, the contribution of biomethane to fuel heavy transport or heating, is key. All this emerges from the report published by Ecofys, a navigant company, presented this year and commissioned by the Gas for Climate Consortium.
