In the County of Kalmar, in south-eastern Sweden, there are many factors that make biogas from manure a strategic resource. Biogas is the best solution for maintaining a high level of food production in the area, improving the quality of the water in the Baltic Sea and reducing carbon emissions from local public transport. For this reason, since 2017 all public buses within the County have been fossil fuel-free, with 60% powered by biogas and the remainder by HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil). In annual terms this will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 75% compared to 2016.
