Spirulina: the food of the future produced thanks to biogas
Case history
Spirulina is a blue-green algae that lives in warm, salty water. It is being hailed as one of the superfoods of the moment because of its beneficial properties, and the FAO has described it as the “food of the future”. Heat is an essential element in its production. For this reason the French agricultural producer Gaec du Cormier has decided to exploit the thermal energy produced by its 635 kW biogas cogeneration plant to grow this nutrient-rich algae, with the assurance of a constantly available source of heat.
