ARERA: Gas Grid Connection Procedures Simplified for Biomethane Plants
Market and policy
The landscape is changing for those looking to inject biomethane into the gas grid. With the new resolution, ARERA makes access simpler and, above all, more economically sustainable. The most significant change concerns connection costs: while producers previously covered 80% of the costs, their share now drops to 30%, shifting the balance in favor of operators. And that’s not all. Key activities such as gas metering and compression will now be handled by the network operator, further reducing the initial investment required to develop new plants. The underlying message is clear: if the gas is ready to be injected, it must be allowed into the grid. The new provisions already apply to connection requests submitted after 13 March.Let’s explore the details with Marco Pezzaglia from CIB.
