Germany: the Zeller family produces Bio-LNG and bio-CO₂ from biogas

                  Case history

In the Allgäu region of southern Germany, a new biomethane plant produces bio-LNG. The facility is owned by the Zeller family, dairy farmers who transform livestock manure into biogas. This biogas is then purified and converted into both bio-LNG, used to fuel the company’s truck fleet, and liquid CO₂, which is sold to the beverage industry. The plant’s production capacity reaches 4.6 tonnes of bio-LNG per day, enough to refuel both the Zeller family’s vehicles and external trucks. With this strategy, the company aims to cut emissions, make its plants independent from future subsidies, and ensure more sustainable transport.
