Rio Cuarto, Argentina: virtuous synergies between biogas and bioethanol
Anaerobic digestion
Bioethanol is produced through the fermentation of agricultural products rich in sugar, such as grape marc, grains or other sugar crops. Often, the residues of the production of this biofuel still offer a good methane power and are therefore suitable for anaerobic digestion. Thanks to this approach, it is possible to produce biogas and consequently electrical and thermal energy that can also be used to feed the bioethanol production process. This synergy has been introduced in the biogas plant in Rio Cuarto, Argentina, an excellent example of how biogas can be successfully integrated into the bioethanol value chain.
